Dynamics of the "tank - liquid with a free surface" system under the action of external force excitation of motion

Abstract

The dynamics of the mechanical system ``reservoir -- liquid with a free surface'' exposed to an external vertical force, which varies by a harmonic law, is considered. The dynamics is studied by employing a nonlinear multidimensional (up to 12 wave modes) discrete model, developed on the basis of the Hamilton-Ostrogradsky variational principle. It is shown that dynamic processes in the system develop as a combination of parametric resonance and forced oscillations.
