Symmetry reduction of partial differential equations with two independent variables

Abstract

The symmetry reduction of nonlinear partial differential equations with two independent variables is studied. The method is based on the Lie-Backlund symmetry operators of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The reduction method is applied to partial differential equations of evolution and wave types.
